The 175th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan

Electromagnetism of nano-structured materials Recent progress in the fields of meta-materials and spin-current using nano-structured materials has led a movement towards the re-consideration of magnetic permeability and electromagnetism of matter. Much attention has been paid to this movement also from the view point of near-field-assisted magnetic recording technologies. On the other hand, magnetic materials with large permeability have been intensively studied so far by members of the MSJ. This symposium is open for the discussion of “classical permeability” and “a new aspect of permeability” and to promote the novel research field of electromagnetism in nano-structured materials. In this symposium, we hope to generate exciting and stimulating discussion among those interested […]

The 174th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan

The Physics of the “Spin-Crossover” The oxides and the complex including the transition metal have the crucial role as ceramics, functional polymers and a biological material such as the haem-protein. The d-electrons of the transition metals enclosed by the ligand dominants the characteristic of these materials and d-electrons will take a variety of spin arrangement, which is correlated with the difference of the electronic state. That is, the spin state is united strongly with the electronic state. Moreover, if the spin arrangement can be changed by external stimulation, the change in variegated physical properties accompanied with the change of magnetism can be realized through the change of the electronic state. […]

The 173rd Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan

Heat and magnetism as energy-related technology Finite fossil fuels such as petroleum are still the most commonly energy source. 60% of electric power in Japan is generated by combustion of such fossil fuels, which are indispensable to maintain the quality of our life. On the other hand, with more encouragement of suppression for CO2 emission causing green house warming, development of a new energy sources to replace present fossil fuels are desired more. Since the discovery of Faraday’s electromagnetic induction law, magnetism and energy are closely related with each other. So we would like to focus on the collaboration between magnetism and heat in this symposium. Recent exciting topics for […]

The 172nd Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan

Fabrication of nano-magnets and nano-magnetic-devices -Top-down methods and bottom-up methods- Thanks to recent progress of nano-technologies, fabrication techniques of very fine nano-magnets and nano-magnetic-devices have advanced in fineness and controllability, consequently the nano-magnets and nano-magnetic-devices have been used in various fields. This symposium provides an opportunity to introduce the promising technology of fabrication of the nano-magnets and the nano-magnetic-devices using the “Top-down” methods and the “Bottom-up” methods, with the recent topics of research by researchers actively working in this field. We are very much looking forward to your participation. Date: May 27, 2010 (Thursday) 10:30-16:30 Venue: Surugadai Memorial Hall, Room 670, Chuo University (3-11-5 Kanda-Surugadai, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), tel: 03-3292-3111 In […]

The 171st Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan / The 10th Special Meetings on the Application of High Magnetic Fields

Magnetic fields and living body – interaction among them, medical applications – The magnetic fields are utilized in our daily life in various ways. Recently, high magnetic fields are applied not only for scientific use but also for common use such as MRI, therefore, the opportunity of exposure against high magnetic fields is increasing for people. Even though the effects of magnetic fields on human or living bodies have attracted much attention through the ages, the understandings about the interaction among them were deepened only recently. Owing to this improvement of understandings, the applications of magnetic fields are increasing such as a tool to investigate the brain function, or as […]

The 170th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 4th Symposium of the Optical-functional Magnetic Devices and Materials

Synergy effects in optical/magnetic fields – Trends on next generation storages and new optical functional magnetic devices – For realizing the thermally assisted magnetic recording, many of technologies and human resources had been merged from optical and magnetic fields in the last decade, and newly designed functional recording devices which utilize optical near field phenomenon have been fabricated and begin to show good recording results which indicate the possibility of higher recording areal density beyond 1 Tb/in2 nowadays. On the other hand fundamental researches had been continuing to create new functional devices, such as nano-structured metamaterial and photonic crystal devices, ultra fast spin reversal phenomenon under the femtoseconds ordered laser […]

The 169th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 1st Symposium of Magnetic Materials, Industrial Users Society for Neutron Application

Most Advanced Measuring Instruments and Apparatus for the Investigation of Magnetism and Their Prospective View Measuring instruments and apparatus for the study of magnetism are indispensable to researchers of a variety of magnetism, magnetic materials, and their applications. They are always with the researchers everywhere in the world regardless of the scale of laboratories: from a small laboratory to a large facility such as a synchrotron radiation facility, and a facility with a neutron source. Several techniques have recently made remarkable progress, and a door to explore the unknown world to the researchers is now opening. This symposium provides an opportunity to introduce the brand-new techniques, and prospective sciences in […]

The 168th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 26th Topical symposium of Spin-electronics

Recent Studies on Spin Current and Its Application A new concept on “Spin Current” has been introduced in Spintronics field, since physical phenomena of spin injection and spin accumulation play an important role against the charge current. Recently, interaction between magnetics and electric current as well as controlling spin current are concerned with new cooperative applications and devices such as MRAM, spin transistor, spin-torque oscillator, spin dice, and so on. In this joint symposium, researchers actively working in this field will give talks on their latest results and discuss the spin current and its application. We very much look forward to your participation. Date: November 2 , 2009 (Monday) , […]

The 167th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

New Developments of High Performance Magnetic Sensor Applications The sensor, which can detect information or energy, is one of the key devices to support safe, secure and convenient life in highly information-oriented society. Magnetic sensors, which detect electromagnetic fields, have been used in many applications because of noncontact technology. For example, classifying the sensors in terms of sensing object, the sensors to detect magnetic field, are popular devices. Recently, achievements of high performance magnetic sensors lead to the new technology developments such as navigation technologies by electric compass, environment monitoring technologies, nondestructive detection technologies, and medical diagnosis technologies. The 167th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan aims providing […]

The 166th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

Magnetics for the environment and the energy conservation What can we do to solve the issues? The Fourth Assessment Report of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Working Group I Report “The Physical Science Basis” (2 February 2007 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology; Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; Japan Meteorological Agency; and Ministry of the Environment) concluded that global warming and climate change are progressing and that global warming is increased by human-induced greenhouse gas emission. Applying technology to prevent the disruptive effects of global warming has been seriously discussed, and many policies concerning science and technology have been established. Recycling […]
