The 166th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

Magnetics for the environment and the energy conservation
What can we do to solve the issues?

The Fourth Assessment Report of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Working Group I Report “The Physical Science Basis” (2 February 2007 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology; Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; Japan Meteorological Agency; and Ministry of the Environment) concluded that global warming and climate change are progressing and that global warming is increased by human-induced greenhouse gas emission. Applying technology to prevent the disruptive effects of global warming has been seriously discussed, and many policies concerning science and technology have been established. Recycling and energy conservation measures are being actively implemented in our daily life. The important issues in terms of research and development in Japan, however, remain the securing of resources for mining, manufacturing, energy, food, and water. We must not pay attention to the environmental problem alone.

The 166th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan aims providing a chance to think about what can we do and how to face the global-scale environment and the energy conservation problems. The science and technology, such as energy-saving IT equipments, electric power storage and pollutant removal, that relates to the Magnetic Society of Japan should be able to contribute to the solution of these problems. We sincerely appreciate participation of researchers and engineers who are interested in this issue.
