The 170th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 4th Symposium of the Optical-functional Magnetic Devices and Materials

Synergy effects in optical/magnetic fields
– Trends on next generation storages and new optical functional magnetic devices –

For realizing the thermally assisted magnetic recording, many of technologies and human resources had been merged from optical and magnetic fields in the last decade, and newly designed functional recording devices which utilize optical near field phenomenon have been fabricated and begin to show good recording results which indicate the possibility of higher recording areal density beyond 1 Tb/in2 nowadays. On the other hand fundamental researches had been continuing to create new functional devices, such as nano-structured metamaterial and photonic crystal devices, ultra fast spin reversal phenomenon under the femtoseconds ordered laser irradiation. In this topical symposium, recent topics will be presented from a perspective of hybrid magnetic recording devices/media and of new optical functional magnetic devices and phenomenon. We very much look forward to your participation.
