The 193rd Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 45th Topical Symposium on Spin-electronics

Spin-caloritronics – Cooperative phenomenon between magnetism and heat – A new research field of “Spin-caloritronics”, which utilizes an interaction between spins and heat, has emerged in recent years and attracted attentions both from fundamental science and applications perspectives. The scientific insight obtained in this field is expected to provide novel functionalities to the existing spintronic device technologies. In this symposium, we will invite five researchers who are actively involved in the vanguard of Spin-caloritronics. State-of-the-art studies will be presented by the speakers during the symposium. Participants from various fields are welcome, and we encourage for those of you to take part in lively discussion. Date: December 17th (Tuesday), 2013 13:00 […]

The 192nd Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

New Developments in Formation Technology of Magnetic Thin Film Structures Establishment of technology to fabricate magnetic nanostructures by controlling the crystal structure and shape has become an important issue for the application of the device based on a magnetic thin film. In particular, development of the optimal method for the thin film formation is essential to the creation of magnetic thin films with novel physical properties. The recent improvement of the thin film formation technology makes it possible to fabricate magnetic thin films having a sophisticated nanostructure. In this symposium, six researchers who are all active in the front-line will show their recent achievements on the new developments and the […]

The 191st Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 45th Topical Symposium on Spin-electronics

Berry Phase and Topological Insulators Berry phase of electrons and topological insulators are now hot topics in condensed matter physics. It may be, however, tough to catch the image when you see a sentence like “Berry curvature corresponds to a magnetic field for electrons”. Nevertheless, we cannot neglect this movement because the Berry phase and topological insulators are essentially related to electron spins. Several familiar words, for example, “spin Hall effects” and “spin currents”, can be found in many talks in this symposium. Here we are inviting speakers studying on the frontline of theoretical and experimental research into Berry phase and topological insulators. We hope to generate exciting and stimulating […]

The 190th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan / The 47th Topical Symposium of Magnetism

Physics of biomaterials It is quite often said that the 21st century is the era of biology, but we have been facing a lot of problems in understanding electronic structures of biomaterials such as DNA. It is mainly due to the difficulty of applying conventional techniques of condensed-matter physics to such systems. However, owing to the recent developments of spectroscopic and theoretical techniques, a lot of progress has been reported. In this symposium, we will focus on condensed-matter-physics approaches to biomaterials, especially understanding electronic structures of DNA and protein, and one-dimensional electric transport by using biomaterials as a mold. Six top-level researchers will show their recent achievements. We welcome a […]

The 189th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

High efficiency motors by optimal design using recent magnetic materials Electric power is largely consumed by motor, and its amount reaches to half of all across the world. Therefore development and spread of high efficiency motors provide significant contribution for saving electric power. In this symposium, the presentations about hard and soft magnets, which are essential components for high efficiency motors, are programmed. In addition, technical advantage of motors by using an optimal magnetic circuit design and applications of such efficient motors are to be presented. We greatly hope you will be able to attend this symposium. Date: February 4th (Monday), 2013 13:00 – 17:30 Venue: Room 320, Surugadai Memorial Hall, […]

The 188th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

Front Line of Applying High-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields Much attention has been paid for high-frequency electromagnetic fields from both viewpoints between seeds and needs such as discovery of new techniques in spintronics, non-contact electrical energy transfer with resonance, demands of rapid response in information technological apparatuses and so on. The technologies in these high-frequency electromagnetic fields, whose frequency band is from order of kHz to GHz, are kept to build from discovery of Faraday’s electromagnetic induction to today. The frequency bandwidth is widening to higher frequency, so new techniques in high magnetic fields have been investigated. In this symposium, we are inviting speakers investigating on the forefront of applying high frequent […]

The 187th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan / The 46th Topical Symposium of Nano-Bio Magnetics

Magnetic hyperthermia and magnetic nanoparticles – viewpoint of clinical medicine Magnetic hyperthermia is expected to realize efficient heating of tumors by applied energy from outside of the body. Equipment including coils, power sources and circuits for clinical use, and design of material and structures for heating agents are subjects for a research issues in magnetics. Other than heating agents for hyperthermia, magnetic nanoparticles are attractive for various biomedical applications, e.g. clinically used contrast agents of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nonviral carrier of gene delivery. In this symposium, recent studies on magnetic hyperthermia and magnetic nanoparticles are introduced from a viewpoint of clinical medicine. It is intended to find research […]
