The 191st Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 45th Topical Symposium on Spin-electronics

Berry Phase and Topological Insulators

Berry phase of electrons and topological insulators are now hot topics in condensed matter physics. It may be, however, tough to catch the image when you see a sentence like “Berry curvature corresponds to a magnetic field for electrons”. Nevertheless, we cannot neglect this movement because the Berry phase and topological insulators are essentially related to electron spins. Several familiar words, for example, “spin Hall effects” and “spin currents”, can be found in many talks in this symposium. Here we are inviting speakers studying on the frontline of theoretical and experimental research into Berry phase and topological insulators. We hope to generate exciting and stimulating discussion among those interested in this field.
