The 165th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 28th Topical symposium of Nano-magnetics

Ultimate Magnetic Recording “Challenge to super terabit recording” Various technology which aimed at the recording density of 1 terabit per square inch (1Tbit/in2) made a present target has been proposed to realize a hard disk drive (HDD) of large storage capacity. Last year, there were announcements the areal recording density of HDD achieved 612 Gbit/in2 and 803 Gbit/in2by present perpendicular recording system and by using a descrete track media. And it is expected that 1 Tbit/in2 will be realized within several years. To achieve an areal recording density of the super terabit, the ultimate technology which controls the nanometer and a nanosecond, in each technology like microfabrication, a smaller bit evaluation, and […]

The 164th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 29th Topical Symposium of Nano-Bio Magnetics

Detection of Magnetic Nanoparticles and Its Biomedical Applications Research and development of biomedical applications of magnetic nanoparticles have been activated from fundamental subjects to clinical tests. The magnetic nanoparticles are used for the clinical in vivo application as MRI contrast agents for liver cancer diagnosis. As for in vitro applications, the magnetic nanoparticles are practically used for bio-screening and magnetic labels detecting bioactive molecules. In this symposium, recent studies on detection of magnetic nanoparticles are introduced. In order to detect the magnetic nanoparticles localized at a specific position inside of the body, magnetic sensor with high sensitivity is necessary. In vitro detection of magnetic nanoparticles is also expected to realize […]

The 163th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

Magnetic Properties and Nanostructure Control for High Performance in Hard and Soft Magnetic Materials Hard magnetic materials have been used in many applications in automobile, home electronics, IT and medical industries. Recently, their application extends to motors for HEVs and EPS in automobile industries and compressors for home electronics. Dust cores, which is one kind of soft magnetic materials, offer unique design possibilities for motor cores, and have attracted a great deal of attention from automobile industries. Soft magnetic materials using metallic glasses and nanoparticles are also interested. However, further improvement of magnetic properties is strongly demanded in both hard and soft magnetic materials. Microstructure control in nanometer size is […]

The 162th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan

Next Generation Applied Electromagnetic Power Apparatus Developed by Vector Magnetic Property Techniques In order to solve the problems for global environment and energy consumption, establishing technologies for high efficiency and low energy consumption is very important. Optimal designs of electromagnetic apparatus, to which are applied both high grade magnetic materials and electromagnetic power application technologies will become more and more important. At this point, however, if is not sufficient that high grade material function so affective. New design technologies based on “vector magnetic property” theory are needed. Recently a big project ” Constructions of Next Generation Technologies for Electromagnetic Power Apparatus” is paid a lot of attentions. Researchers from seven […]

The 161th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 21st Topical Symposium of Spinelectronics

Recent Studies on Cooperative Phenomena between Magnetics and Optics Since Michael Faraday discovered the rotation of the plane of polarized light in a magnetic field, magneto-optical effects are used to realize Kerr effect microscopes, optical isolators and magneto-optical disks. Recently, interaction between magnetics and optics enables to control magnetization by photons as well as controlling optical properties by magnetization, and we are concerned with new cooperative phenomena and devices such as metamaterials, nanoparticles, spin injection and detection in spin-LED, and manipulation of magnetization by light. In this joint symposium, researchers actively working in this field will give talks on their latest results and discuss the new relationship between magnetics and […]

The 160th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 29th Topical Symposium of New Magnetic Compounds

Recent Topics of Research in Magnetism and Industrial Applications using Neutron Scattering and Prospective View with the World Highest Neutron Source at J-PARC The neutron is an indispensable and nondestructive probe particularly for the investigation of magnetism. The Materials and Life science experimental Facility (MLF) with the world highest pulsed neutron source in Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) is now under construction. The first neutron beams are scheduled to deliver to the several neutron spectrometers installed at MLF in May, 2008. Much progress in research of magnetism is expected using intense pulsed neutrons at this facility in near future. This symposium provides an opportunity to introduce the performance of […]

The 159th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 20th Topical symposium of Spin-electronics

Fundamental physics and device application of spin functions in semiconductor Recent intensive studies on “spintronics” grow the understanding about spin-function in semiconductors. The coverage of the research is expanding to include electronics, magnetics and optics. Additionally, the crossover between magnetic “metal” and “semiconductor” plays an important role to realize highly-functional spintronic devices. The spintronic devices made of semiconductor are also very compatible with the existing electronics technology. In this symposium, we will focus on the spin function of semiconductor from the viewpoint of the fundamental physics and application. We invite the lead scientists in this field and discuss the future devices. We very much look forward to your participation. Date: […]

The 158th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 24th Symposium of the Hybrid Recording

What is the Successive Technology in Perpendicular Magnetic Recording for Higher Recording Density, a Patterned Media and/or a Hybrid Recording? Higher data transfer rate and larger capacity are strongly required in data storage devices, especially in hard disk drives (HDDs), to respond to ever-increasing information with higher quality and larger volume. In this topical symposium, we invited active researchers in the field of next generation HDDs. Recent topics will be presented from a perspective of post-perpendicular granular type of magnetic media. We very much look forward to your participation. Date: February 1, 2008 (Friday) 13:00-16:40 Venue: Kagaku Kaikan, 6th Floor (Chiyoda, Tokyo) 1-5 Kanda-Surugadai, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo (3 mins. walk from […]
