The 198th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan / The 61st Topical Symposium of Nanomagnetics

Spin-torque and its application for new generation recording

The spin-torque, which is generated by spin-polarized current, has been well established as a method for controlling macroscopic magnetization in the last decade. Spin torque oscillator (STO) is one of the promising devices based on the spin-torque. The operation frequency of STOs is in the GHz bandwidth and controllable by changing the external current and/or field. A few applications of the STOs to new generation magnetic recording have been recently proposed such as a microwave assisted recording (MAMR) and reading multi-level recording. In this symposium, we invite four lecturers who are involved in spin-torque devices from the field of fundamental spintronics and magnetic recording industries. We welcome the participation of all of you.
