The 256th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan

Recent advances in research on altermagnets

Alongside ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, altermagnets have recently gained attention as a third class of magnetic materials. Despite having almost no net magnetization and minimal stray magnetic fields, magnetic moments of altermagnets can be manipulated and detected similarly to ferromagnets, due to the unique arrangement of their magnetic moments. This property makes them promising for applications such as ultra-high-density and ultra-fast magnetic data storage. In this workshop, we have invited six distinguished researchers active in fields related to altermagnets to give talks on recent advances and research trends from theoretical, experimental, and other perspectives. We look forward to welcoming your participation.
